Thank You for Your Servitude is Mark Leibovich’s unflinching account of the moral rout of a major American political party, tracking the transformation of Rubio, Cruz, Graham, and their ilk into the administration’s chief enablers, and the swamp’s lesser lights into frantic chasers of the grift. Even more, in their outrage: Trump was a menace and an affront to our democracy. In the early months of Trump’s candidacy, the Republican Party’s most important figures, people such as Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Lindsey Graham, were united-and loud-in their scorn and contempt. “The new must read summer book.” –Stephanie Ruhleįrom the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller This Town, the eyewitness account of how the GOP collaborated with Donald Trump to transform Washington’s “swamp” into a gold-plated hot tub-and a onetime party of rugged individualists into a sycophantic personality cult. “Really fascinating. There are so many revelations.” –Anderson Cooper “His writing is so damn good.” –John Berman “This is a really funny book.” –Kara Swisher “He’s one of the best chroniclers of politics today.” –Jake Tapper

Even the Table of Contents of her latest novel, Beulah, reflects that sense of effortless ingenuity (The beginning chapter is called “When you talk to the dead”, followed by 12 month named titles, followed by the last chapter, “When you walk with the dead”). “Nogle, like all writers with a rare knack coupled with incredible skill and imagination, makes everything she writes look easy and effortlessly ingenious. She lives in Boise, Idaho with her partner Jim and their gorgeous dogs. Her short stories have appeared in over fifty publications including PseudoPod, Vastarien, and Dark Matter Magazine along with anthologies such as C.M Muller’s Nightscript and Flame Tree’s American Gothic.Ĭhristi is a member of the Horror Writers Association, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, and Codex Writers’ Group. Christi Nogle’s debut novel, Beulah, is out now from Cemetery Gates Media and her collection The Best of Our Past, the Worst of Our Future is coming in early 2023 from Flame Tree Press, to be followed by Promise (mid-2023) and One Eye Opened in That Other Place (2024). In this classic autobiography, first published in 1903, Miss Keller recounts the first 22 years of her life, including the magical moment at the water pump when, recognizing the connection between the word "water" and the cold liquid flowing over her hand, she realized that objects had names. Her tenacious struggle to overcome these handicaps-with the help of her inspired teacher, Anne Sullivan-is one of the great stories of human courage and dedication. When she was 19 months old, Helen Keller (1880–1968) suffered a severe illness that left her blind and deaf. Her most famous novel, Woman at Point Zero was published in Beirut in 1973. It was at this time that she began to write, in works of fiction and non-fiction, the books on the oppression of Arab women for which she has become famous. The magazine, Health, which she had founded and edited for more than three years, was closed down.įrom 1973 to 1978 Saadawi worked at the High Institute of Literature and Science. In 1972, however, she lost her job in the Egyptian government as a result of political pressure. Her first novel Memoirs of a Woman Doctor was published in Cairo in 1958. During this time, she also studied at Columbia University in New York, where she received her Master of Public Health degree in 1966. For two years, she practiced as a medical doctor, both at the university and in her native Tahla.įrom 1963 until 1972, Saadawi worked as Director General for Public Health Education for the Egyptian government. Unusually, she and her brothers and sisters were educated together, and she graduated from the University of Cairo Medical School in 1955, specializing in psychiatry. Nawal El Saadawi (Arabic: نوال السعداوي) was born in 1931, in a small village outside Cairo. Geomorphology is the study of landforms and my interest as a geomorphology researcher is in determining the origin of large drainage systems, such as the Missouri River drainage basin in North America. Over a period of many years, after studying such anomalous evidence, I was forced to develop a fundamentally different interpretation of North American geomorphic history than that which is generally accepted. For many years I have pursued a research interest that developed when as result of geologic field work and interpretation of large mosaics of detailed North American topographic maps I discovered significant evidence previous investigators had ignored. I was trained in geology at Columbia University and the University of Wyoming where my studies emphasized regional geomorphology. Eric Clausen Website: At present I am a professor emeritus having taught geology at Minot State University (North Dakota, USA) from 1968 until 1997. The author has portrayed this as a love story but this is far from love. This series to me is a horrible example for people to want to look up to. He still haven't learned that in order to have a good relationship, he must change inside to see himself. He live in a world where he think he can get whatever he wants no matter the cost or measure on how to get it. She let her hormones dictate to her instead of thinking clearly. Unfortunately, her immaturity led her back into a toxic relationship she shouldn't be in. I think they are truly both young and because Hessa decided to make career changes in her life, she took on a new role and tried to walk in those new shoes. And while spending time with Aelin (and her enormous ego) had become nigh unbearable, I wasn’t sure how Maas would keep up the momentum while totally abandoning Aelin and Co’s storyline. I despaired at the direction she took Chaol in after Heir of Fire, and was mentally bracing myself for Maas to keep royally screwing him. So my expectations going into Tower of Dawn were exceedingly low. The fact that Empire of Storms and A Court of Mists and Fury were basically the same book. Her sex scenes, which are either cringe-worthy or unwittingly hilarious (see: Rowan’s lightning orgasm). Her characters’ decisions and actions are often inconsistent, or she changes their personality completely (see: Tamlin). Aelin Galathynius, who I want to throat punch pretty much any time she opens her mouth, is in a hate category all of her own. That her main characters (and most of her secondary ones) are, without fail, spectacularly good looking. The absurd amount of vowels she uses-Chaol, Celaena, Eyllwe. And her male characters?īut then there’s a lot that drives me crazy. Book plots (for the most part) are fast paced and keep me on the edge of me seat. I love the interesting characters she invents and the emotional journeys they go through. I love the worlds she builds, with their magics and customs and diverse people groups. I have a love/hate relationship with Sarah J. The book challenges medicine’s long-held delusion of a gender binary in which the (white) male body is taken as standard, and the ‘female’ body-defined by the presence of a dangerous and unruly womb-is viewed as essentially pathological, and the consequences of this for all women, trans men, and non-binary people. Shocking-and true-stories like these pervade medical historian Elinor Cleghorn’s non-fiction debut, “ Unwell Women: Misdiagnosis and Myth in a Man-Made World,” which reveals the history of gendered medicine in a way that is at once scientifically evidenced, personal, and intersectional. It would take a man’s pleasure to fix this unwell woman. His prescription? Marriage and penetrative sex to release the blockage. His diagnosis was that as the girl had gone through puberty but was not yet married her body must be overfilled with menstrual blood, such that it had oozed into her veins and turned her mad. The famous physician, Hippocrates of Cos, (of Hippocratic Oath fame) was called to help. In fact, her symptoms were so severe that she considered taking her own life, just to escape them. Thousands of years ago, a teenage girl walked the streets at night, suffering from pain, high fever, and disturbing hallucinations.
